Brian Tam, CFA


Brian Tam is a Director and Research Analyst with 50 South Capital. He is a member of the hedge fund research team responsible for manager sourcing, evaluating and executing fund investments, as well as ongoing monitoring and analysis. He currently leads manager due diligence for credit and event driven strategies, and significantly contributes to sourcing opportunistic and direct co-investments. In addition, he also covers healthcare long-short equity strategies and credit relative-value strategies. Previously, he has covered generalist long-short equity managers and other sector specialists as well. He also participates in fundraising, investor relations and portfolio management activities. Brian joined Northern Trust as a summer intern in Equity Research prior to joining full-time as a Rotational Development Program member focused on Investments. He completed rotations in Wealth Advisory, Equity Research, Multi-Manager Research, and Product Management.

Education & Associations

Brian received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University as a double major in Economics and Mathematics, and his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with concentrations in Analytic Finance, Economics, Accounting, International Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Strategic Management and General Management. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Chicago.


A Southern California native, Brian endures the cold while residing in the Loop Theater District with his strategy consultant wife. When he’s not at his desk, he and his wife are often traveling the globe to faraway lands trying to arbitrage their miles and points.
