Robert P. Morgan is a Senior Vice President and Managing Director for 50 South Capital, with management responsibility for the alternative asset investments areas of 50 South Capital. He had previously been Director of Private Equity, a position he held since co-founding the Private Equity funds group, and an area in which he remains heavily involved.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he worked as a Director at Frye-Louis Capital Advisors, LLC (FLCA), a Chicago-based private equity investment manager, and was responsible for all of the operations of FLCA, including the management of a private equity fund-of-funds. Prior to joining FLCA, he worked for Heller Financial, Inc., a middle-market commercial finance company which was later acquired by General Electric. Mr. Morgan was a Senior Vice President at Heller and was responsible for its private equity programs. Within Heller, he held several roles, including positions in the Corporate Finance Group, Corporate Credit and Heller Equity Capital Corporation, Heller’s captive private equity fund. He has invested in over 100 private equity funds covering the buyout, venture capital, structured high yield, real estate and international markets. While at Heller, he also oversaw a direct equity co-investment program which totaled approximately 20 investments. Prior to attending business school, he worked for a commercial bank in North Carolina.
Mr. Morgan is a board member for the Illinois Venture Capital Association and several fund advisory boards. He received his B.A. in economics from Wake Forest University and an MBA from Emory University.
Mustafa Baig is a Product Manager for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team responsible for positioning the benefits of hedge funds, communicating portfolio attribution, analyzing market trends, and leading the development of new product ideas.Mr. Baig has over 12 years of asset management experience with the last seven focused on developing and promoting investment strategies and products.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he worked as a Closed-End Fund Product Specialist for Calamos Investments where he was responsible for servicing and growing a $6 billion product line by representing the portfolio management team with clients and internal audiences. He began his asset management career at UBS where he was a Consultant Relations Specialist servicing institutional clients before being promoted to an Asset Allocation Product Manager working with absolute return and portable alpha strategies.
Mr. Baig is pursuing his MBA at University of Chicago Booth School of Business and holds a B.S in finance from Northern Illinois University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Institute.
Anthony Chiaverini is a Vice President and member of 50 South Capital's Operational Due Diligence Team.Mr. Chiaverini is responsible for the oversight and administration of the operational due diligence program for 50 South Capital’s investment programs. The due diligence program includes initial reviews of sub-advisers to a program and ongoing monitoring to ensure sub-advisers have sufficient operational controls in place.
Prior to joining the Operational Due Diligence Group, he was a Hedge Fund Credit Officer at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he was responsible Hedge Fund Counterparty Credit Risk Management which involved credit related due diligence over various hedge fund managers. Prior to joining Bank of America in September 2010, he was and Operational Due Diligence Analyst within the Operational Due Diligence Group, at UBP Asset Management. Prio to joining UBP, he worked at UBS Investment Bank within the Hedge Fund Credit Risk Group as a Credit Analyst and within the Internal Audit Group as an Internal Auditor.
Mr. Chiaverini earned a Bachelor of Business Administration - accounting from Pace University.
Jessica Chu is Investor Relations for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, she was an Asset Management Analyst at J.P. Morgan, where she tailored fixed income investment solutions for ultra high net worth individuals and select institutions. She also supported a team of investment specialists and worked directly with the Regional Chief Investment Officer for the sales management of investment products and business development initiatives. During her time at J.P. Morgan, she was responsible for managing the private equity and hedge fund books in fund raising and marketing for the Central Region.
Ms. Chu received her B.A degree from Northwestern University in English literature and international studies. She also holds her FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.
Robert D. DiCarlo is a Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for 50 South Capital. Mr. DiCarlo is responsible for implementing several infrastructure projects, and for positioning the group to achieve future growth in assets.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he was with Aurora Investment Management, where he was responsible for all aspects of Aurora’s financial and performance reporting, and he also was involved in many of its systems and operational platforms. Prior to Aurora, he worked at Deutsche Asset Management for nine years, and he has over 20 years of experience in the financial management area.
Mr. DiCarlo is a Certified Public Accountant (registered in Illinois), graduated from DePaul with a B.S. in accounting, and received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Northwestern University.
John Frede is Director of Research for 50 South Capital’s Hedge Fund Investment Team, responsible for manager selection and monitoring and is a member of the Senior Investment Committee.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, John was Head of Research Management at Mesirow Advanced Strategies and a member of the Senior Investment Group. In this capacity, John was responsible for managing all aspects of Mesirow's hedge fund research process and team. Prior to that role, John opened Mesirow’s London office and built its research team while serving as Head of European Research. He was responsible for monitoring and sourcing all hedge fund strategies in the region. Prior to Mesirow, John was Head of Research for the Americas at Mercer Investment Consulting where he chaired a number of the firm's ratings committees across traditional and alternative asset classes.
John received a Bachelor of Science in finance from Indiana University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Institute.
Greg Jones is a Research Analyst for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he was employed at Cliffwater LLC, where he was a Vice President on the firm's hedge fund research team. At Cliffwater, he was responsible for sourcing and performing due diligence on hedge fund managers, with a focus on the global macro family of strategies, including discretionary global macro, systematic global macro, CTAs, currency, and commodity hedge fund strategies.
Mr. Jones received a B.S. in decision and information sciences from the University of Florida and an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Institute. Prior to attending business school, Mr. Jones was an IT consultant for a boutique technology solutions firm.
Adam J. Magyar is a Quantitative Strategist for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team. Mr. Magyar is a member of the Senior Investment Committee, responsible for monitoring and analyzing risk and performance for 50 South Capital’s hedge fund of funds program. Prior to joining 50 South Capital, Mr. Magyar served at Northern Trust Asset Management in other asset allocation and investment strategy roles throughout his tenure.
Prior to joining the Asset Management team, he was an investment performance consultant in the Northern Trust Investment Risk and Analytical Services group. As an investment performance consultant, he worked with large corporate ERISA plans as well as endowments and foundations, assisting his clients in the investment management process by providing them performance measurement services, investment analysis and consulting services. Prior to joining Northern Trust, he worked at the Chicago Stock Exchange and a retail brokerage firm.
Mr. Magyar holds a B.S in finance from Bradley University. He is a CFA Charterholder and Certified Financial Risk Manager.
Kristin Norton is a Research Analyst for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team.
Ms. Norton graduated from Harvard College in 2013 with a major in east asian studies and secondary in economics. During her time at Harvard, she was co-captain of the Women's Varsity Tennis Team in her junior and senior years.
She brings previous summer internship experiences from her roles in equity research at Morgan Stanley and investment research at Mizuho Venture Capital, both located in Tokyo, Japan.
Brian Tam is a Research Analyst for 50 South Capital’s Hedge Fund Investment Team.
Mr. Tam is responsible for manager research, sourcing, and ongoing monitoring and analysis. He currently focuses on Event Driven, Credit, and Healthcare focused managers, and has previously covered long/short equity generalists and other sector specialists.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he participated in Northern Trust’s Investments rotational program where his experiences included Equity Research, Wealth Advisory, Multi-Manager Research, and Product Management. Mr. Tam received his B.A. degree as a double major in economics and mathematics from Northwestern University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Institute.
Bruce Tang is a Research Analyst for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he was employed at Aurora Investment Management LLC, where he was a Senior Research Analyst on the firm's investment team. At Aurora, he had primary responsibility in sourcing and monitoring hedge fund investments, providing qualitative and quantitative analysis to the firm's Investment Committee. He conducted due diligence on prospective and existing hedge fund investments across long/short equities, long/short credit, global macro, event-driven, multi-strategy, opportunistic, and portfolio hedge strategies. He began his career in hedge fund research in the Alternative Investments Group at Harris Associates L.P., which was spun out in 2003 as a separate entity named Harris Alternatives LLC. Harris Alternatives LLC was rebranded as Aurora Investment Management LLC in 2009.
Mr. Tang received his B.A. in finance from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Tristan Thomas is Director of Portfolio Strategy for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team, responsible for portfolio construction and monitoring and a member of the team's Senior Investment Committee.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he was a Strategy Head at Mesirow Advanced Strategies and a member of the Senior Investment Group. He was responsible for the monitoring and sourcing of all strategies that fell outside of credit and equity including macro, commodities, relative value, multi-strategy, volatility, convertible arbitrage and reinsurance. Prior to his role as a Strategy Head, he was a Senior Analyst covering all hedge fund strategies in Asia. He began his career at Lehman Brothers where he was on the emerging markets fixed income desk focused on sovereign debt and derivatives.
Mr. Thomas received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in political science and international business and holds an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Institute. He also holds his series 7 and 63 licenses.
Norman E. Wachs is a Portfolio Analyst for 50 South Capital's Hedge fund Investment Team.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he worked for Lehman Brothers and Bank of America as an Institutional Portfolio Analyst. Prior to joining the Hedge Fund team, he worked in Northern Trust's Asset Management business as a Senior Consultant - Investment Performance and Reporting, as well as an investment analyst in the Northern Trust Investment Risk and Analytical Services group. He began his career in 1994 working for approximately 5 years on the trading floor at the Chicago Board Options Exchange eventually trading for his own account.
Mr. Wachs holds a B.A in finance and investments, with a minor in business journalism from the Zicklin School of Business - Baruch College. Throughout his career at Northern Trust, Mr. Wachs has been awarded numerous awards for his work including a Quality Medallion Award, a Partner Appreciation Award, a Partner Service Award and a Total Quality Team Award.
Aimee Wight is a Vice President in the Hedge Fund Group for 50 South Capital Advisors. She is responsible for investor relations including marketing, business development and client servicing of the hedge fund capabilities.
Prior to this position, she was an Investment Program Manager in Northern Trust Global Advisors' program management group focused on Wealth Management clients (ultra high net worth families and foundations). Before re-joining Northern Trust, she was a Senior Vice President and member of the Board of Directors for Royal Palm Insurance Company. In this role she was responsible for managing the service provider and investment relationships, and exploring new business opportunities. Prior to Royal Palm, she was a Director for an alternative investment company where she was a member of the investment team responsible for uncorrelated investments and business development. She also previously worked for Northern Trust as a commercial lender in the Middle Market Lending group and Treasury Management sales.
Ms. Wight received her B.A. in business administration from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and serves as a chapter executive for the Chicago chapter. Additionally she is a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMATM) and also holds her Series 63 and 7 licenses. She is currently pursuing her MBA at Pepperdine University.
David R. Williams is a Senior Portfolio Strategist for 50 South Capital's Hedge Fund Investment Team and a member of the team’s Senior Investment Committee. Mr. Williams works with both the fund of fund product offerings and directly with clients on custom alternative portfolios.
Prior to joining 50 South Capital, he spent seven years in portfolio management for Glenwood Capital, a large fund of funds, and a subsidiary of the Man Group. There he was responsible for analyzing, proposing and managing portfolio changes to enable programs to meet their investment mandates while adhering to their investment guidelines. Previously, he was a research analyst at Ellwood Associates, an investment consulting firm focused on institutional clients.
Mr. Williams received a B.S. in finance from Illinois State University and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Institute.
