Dan Freel

Dan Freel is the Head of 50 South Capital’s Custom Alternatives Solutions practice. Prior to that, he was a Senior Client Investment Officer within Northern Trust’s Global Family Office group collaborating with clients to build and manage customized alternatives and multi-asset class investment programs. Before joining 50 South Capital, he was Director of Investments at Northwestern Memorial Health Care for roughly 5 years where he led investment research across all asset classes, with a focus on Private Investments and Hedge Funds, for the $10 billion Corporate and Pension portfolios. Prior to his time with Northwestern, he worked at Mesirow Advanced Strategies in various senior research positions focusing on credit, equity and multi-strategy hedge funds for close to 13 years. In his most recent role, he led a team managing a $4 billion equity and event hedge fund portfolio within Mesirow’s $10 billion dollar hedge fund-of-fund business.

Dan received his Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Economics and Spanish from Wittenberg University and his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, DePaul University.
